Sex Addiction Therapy in New York and Coaching Online

Take back control from repeated, unwanted sexual behavior, online or offline, with Brad Salzman, LCSW, CSAT, a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and the founder of the New York Sexual Addiction Center.
What is sex addiction?
Sex addiction is repeated, unwanted sexual behavior. It affects men and women, single and married, young and old. If you’ve decided you want to stop acting out sexually, online or in real life, and you keep finding you can’t, no matter how hard you try, you may be dealing with sex addiction.
Common patterns include Internet pornography, one-night stands, prostitution, anonymous sex, massage parlors, strip clubs, and more.
Signs to take seriously
- Your sexual behavior feels compulsive, and you can’t hold the line you set for yourself.
- You go to strip clubs, massage parlors, adult bookstores or escorts more than you want to.
- You get into risky or dangerous relationships that could lead to physical harm or legal trouble.
- You’ve been caught by your partner or spouse, a family member or your boss, or you live in fear of being found out.
- You keep your sexual behavior secret from the people closest to you, as if you were leading a double life.
One of these on its own doesn’t make you an addict. If several hit home, talk it through with a specialist.
The double life
Many of the people Brad works with look successful in public and are struggling in private. There may be a second phone or hidden accounts, tracks covered at home and at work, and the constant strain of keeping two lives apart. Over time, the secrecy wears you down as much as the behavior does.
And the stakes keep rising: money spent, risks taken at work or on the road, health worries, and the fear of what happens to a marriage or a career if the truth comes out. Many people first call after a crisis, when a partner finds messages or an employer raises a concern. The first job is to steady things and decide what to do next, and Brad can help you do both.
What therapy with Brad involves
Work starts by getting clear on the whole picture: what the behavior is, when it started, what sets it off, and what it has cost you. Then Brad works in two stages. First, practical steps to stop the problem behavior. Then the deeper issues underneath it, which are often connected to long-standing difficulties with emotional intimacy.
Brad is trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), DBT, ACT and EMDR. His work draws on practical skills from CBT, DBT and ACT, alongside 12-step work. Many clients find that support between sessions, such as a recovery group, helps alongside therapy. If your partner is struggling too, Brad also offers separate support for partners.

Common questions
Is sex addiction a real problem?
The struggle is real. Many people struggle with sexual urges and behavior they can’t control, even when it causes harm, and “sex addiction” is the term widely used for it. What matters most isn’t the label. It’s whether the behavior is unwanted, hard to stop and causing problems.
What if I'm not sure I'm an addict?
You don't need a label to reach out. If you've tried to stop a sexual behavior you don't like and couldn't, a free consultation is the place to start.
Is porn use part of this?
Often, yes. Compulsive pornography use is one of the most common patterns Brad sees. Read more about porn addiction therapy.
