Practical Questions About Working With Brad

Brad Salzman, LCSW, CSAT

Fees, insurance, hours, online sessions and privacy. For questions about a specific issue, see sex addiction, porn addiction, betrayal trauma or intensives.

Getting started

How do I start?

Call or text (212) 529-7900 for a free, confidential phone consultation, or book a free 15-minute call online and call Brad at the time you choose. You can also send Brad a message; the contact page lists other ways to reach him.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is mainly an assessment. Brad will ask about what brings you in, your history and what you want to change, and you can ask about how he works. Together you agree on next steps and how often to meet.

How long does therapy take?

It is different for everyone. Brad believes each client is unique, so how long therapy takes depends on your situation and goals. You can talk this through in the free consultation. For concentrated work in a short time, Brad also offers intensive programs.

Fees and insurance

What does it cost?

Please ask during the free consultation.

Do you take insurance?

Brad does not accept insurance as payment. On request, he can provide monthly itemized receipts that you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. Please check your insurance company’s policy for out-of-network mental health providers before you start.

Will anything show up on an insurance record?

Brad does not bill insurance, so no claim is filed on your behalf. If you choose to submit receipts for reimbursement, your insurer will see the information on those receipts. You can ask about payment options in the consultation.

Sessions and scheduling

How do online sessions work?

Sessions are held online by video, so you can work with Brad privately from home or wherever you are. There is no waiting room and no one needs to see you arrive at an office. All you need is a private space and a reliable connection.

What video platform do you use?

Sessions are held by video call. Brad will tell you which platform he uses and send you a link before your first session. A phone, tablet or computer with a camera is enough.

What hours are available?

Early morning and weekend hours are available. Ask about current availability in the consultation.

What if I'm in a different time zone?

Sessions are scheduled in New York (Eastern) time. If you live elsewhere, Brad will work with you to find a time that fits; early morning and weekend hours often help.

Privacy and safety

Is therapy confidential? Are there limits?

Yes, therapy is confidential, within the legal limits. Like all licensed therapists, Brad may have to share information in rare situations, for example if someone is at serious risk of harm, if a child or vulnerable adult is being abused, or if a court orders it. He will explain these limits at the start. Email, text, WhatsApp and web forms are convenient but not fully private, so keep first messages brief and save details for your session.

Where is Brad licensed?

Brad Salzman is licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York only, and is not licensed in any other state or country. For clients located outside New York, services are coaching and consultation, not psychotherapy, and do not include the diagnosis or treatment of mental illness. If signs of a mental health condition are identified, Brad will recommend that you see a licensed mental health professional in your state or country.

What if I'm in crisis?

If you're in crisis, call or text 988 in the US, or go to the nearest emergency room.
